Day 90: wait, Washington is sunny?

90 days in! Hard to believe it’s been 3 months living out of my backpack. Sandman upon waking up said, “Wanna sleep another 30 minutes?” Heck yeah I did. Today’s plan included 5k of vertical gain, which seemed easy compared to the 8k+ of yesterday. The mosquitos had been mostly absent the last few days, but our water sources today were lakes, which is breeding ground for those bloodsucking vampires.

There was a cool moment where I crested the ridge line of the mountain, dropped onto the other side, and walked straight into a cloud. The wetness and the accompanying breeze made it feel like one of those fans that mist water. A surreal experience!

The sun was out today, which was a nice change of pace since the last few days were cloudy although I must say that I enjoy this landscape more when it’s cloudy and wet. The greens are more vibrant. I had just assumed the state of Washington always had a Twilight vibe (you know, the vampire romance stories).

If you brush against one of these, it looks like you got hit with a paint ball!

If yesterday was populated with slugs, today was frogs. I saw probably 6 frogs in the last half mile of trail to camp. The mosquitos were out in full force too making it another night of cooking in my tent.
