Day 89: Washington RollerCoaster
The first full day in Washington was stunning. It felt like I was walking through a jungle as the landscape was so lush and dense. The elevation profile today was shaped like a roller coaster -- up 1k, down 2k, up 2k, down 2k, up 2k. My hill climbin’ muscles were put to work today. It finally felt like I hit a hiking groove for the first time since leaving Portland. #ImBack
I saw a group of 10 hikers out together and was amazed how they manage to camp together each night. That’s a lot of tents.
One highlight of using the app Guthooks to navigate is reading through the comments people post throughout the years. Most are informative, but others are downright funny. Someone that goes by ‘Haiku-Ku-Kachu’ hiked in 2019 and sporadically posted haiku poems in the comments. I always laugh at these. Today’s was good:
By the end of the day, both Sandman and I were tired leading Sandman to jest that we ‘must be feeling sluggish’ due to all the slugs we saw today. Something about the landscape here must suit slugs splendidly because I saw more slugs than I’ve ever seen, at least 50 of them. I hope I dont dream about them.
