Day 4: Cow Show Down

Man, what a difference sleeping on a pad makes. I woke up after 10 hours of sleep feeling refreshed. This morning was cold enough for there to be ice in my water bottles.

I had 9 miles before my next (and last) known water source for the final 37 miles to Seligman.

The water source turned out to be a cow water tank with pretty clean water. I filtered 5.5 liters to take with me.

As I was packing my bag, I saw a cow about 40 feet away staring at me. I would look away and then look back only to see him a few feet closer. We kept playing this game until he was about 20 feet away. I stared at him. He stared at me. Finally, I had enough and waved my plastic tarp enthusiastically to scare him away. It worked and I hurried up packing to get away before he changed his mind.

Today I finally felt like I hit a routine and felt strong walking. This gives me a boost of confidence going into my first resupply town where I’ll be a few days ahead of schedule.
