Day 17: Town Here I come!
No agenda this morning so I didn’t set an alarm, but my body is now used to waking up with the sun. I hit the trail shortly after 6 to walk into the town of Joshua Tree NP and to check in early at my Airbnb I’ll be staying at the next two days. I am ahead of schedule by 5 days, and will use the headway to rest my body.
First thing upon entering the Airbnb was to shower (6 days since my last!) and to start laundry. I resolved to wash my clothes twice hoping that’d help with my hiker stench -- it did. I remain convinced showers are the most underrated 1st world benefit.
Food wise, I finished my last section perfectly as I finished my last breakfast walking into town. But I’m a growing boy, so I set off into town to find a second breakfast and early lunch.
Shortly afterwards, I headed to the local library to use a computer to get some more planning done for the upcoming section through the Sierra Nevada mountains. I made a lot of progress and am feeling ready to tackle the challenge.
Kathy, a local who lives in the area and received my resupply boxes, dropped off my boxes, offered to take me to dinner (thanks again!), and then drove me to Walmart for groceries. It was great to spend extended time chatting with someone.
The rest of the day was spent catching up with friends and binge watching Ted Lasso on AppleTV that was recommended to me by my girlfriend. S’good! I now highly recommend to anyone reading this.
