Day 103: Suga Train
Sandman arrived at camp shortly before 11 pm last night which I know because he kept shining his headlamp at my tent. He popped over and whispered, “I saw 2 bears that made me backtrack twice and I lost my phone”. Woof, long night. He found his phone after searching in the dark for it.
I hopped on the sugar train first thing in the morning by having a cinnamon roll from the bakery I packed out followed by a pop tart and Oreos (these were a reward for finishing the 10 mile morning climb).
Then, I crashed. Hard. Miles 10-23 were a struggle bus and I just kept repeating “just walk through it, just walk through it” in Dory like fashion. Sure enough, I found a second wind for the final miles of the day although it may have been aided and abetted by a second cinnamon roll.
We hiked by a large fire near Mazama, WA that caused the skies to be smoky. It is still 4 miles away from the PCT but has been growing. I’m thankful to get through that one!
