Day 79: Elk Lake Resort
Waking up in a cabin was incredibly with so much space to spread out and pack up. I took off before Sandman since he wanted to sleep in a little bit. My mission was to make it 40 miles to Elk Lake Resort for a resupply box by 7pm when they closed. This section is one of the flattest on the PCT and it felt amazing. The trail was mostly snow free with only a few miles of snow total.
The mosquitos were still bad most of the day so I didn’t break much except to fill up on water. I crushed the 40 miles to Elk Lake by 6pm and was in and out of the resort in 30 minutes to head back to trail to meet Sandman at the trail junction. He arrived just a few minutes after me a little beat up from the heat of the day. We walked a few more miles to set up camp. Just as a I finished setting up my tent, the skies broke open and unleashed 20 minutes of rain and hail. I was thankful to be in my tent, and actually appreciated the rain since it cooled down the night.
I’ve been dealing with a scab on my knee from the Sierras. Today, I opened the scab while going through some brush and it opened up a flood of blood down my leg. I stopped within a minute but the damage had been done. Check it out:
