Day 13: the Aquaduct

The aquaduct ran parallel with Hwy 62 for most of the day. Luckily, the only gas station in the 100 mile stretch of road was only a few miles from camp. I headed there to use their bathroom and get a cup of coffee. It was a great start to a Friday.

Today’s hike is what I like to think of as “walking to the edge of the earth” meaning the landscape is flat and I can pick out on the horizon line exactly where I’m heading. It was a monotonous day of walking so I filled my day listening to music, finishing an audio book, and a podcast.

A positive for today is that I only needed to carry a half liter of water with me since the aquaduct was so close. A stark contrast to the 5 liter carries id be experiencing since the Grand Canyon.

For those following along since the start, I know your dying to find out how long my green toenails will last. Here’s a status update:

  • Pinky toes mostly lost all green

  • index toe (ya know, the one by the big toe) appears to be growing the fastest as the base has the most new, unpainted nail

  • the rest are flawless. Shout out to the lady who did the work.
