Day 23: The Golden Arches

It rained this morning. I forgot it could rain after spending most of the last 22 days without seeing a cloud.

Rainbows are cool and all.. expect when you’re hiking through the rain to get to it.

The morning was damp, dreary, and dark requiring me start my day with my headlamp, my rain jacket, and my puffy. I passed scores of hikers still in their tents no doubt dreading the poor weather. The wind was intense today and several times it physically moved me a step or two in another direction.

I’d been day dreaming of today for a few miles now since their was a McDonalds located virtually on trail. I hustled the 24 miles to arrive at the Golden Arches around 1 pm, and promptly ordered a large dry, 6 pc chicken nugget, a McDouble, a spicy McChicken, and an M&M McFlurry (normally I go Oreo, but this had more calories), and went to smash town. Shortly after, I heard another hiker order $30 worth of food -- impressive.

I wanted to cover another 10 miles today to set myself up for an excellent resupply day in Wrightwood, CA. My camp is only 17 miles away from the highway where I’ll attempt my first hitch into town.
