Day 70: The Threat of Rain

We arranged a ride from a trail angel back up to the trail head. The angel stopped by a gas station so we could get coffee and some snacks before we headed up the road. 3 other hikers were in the car with us that we’d seen on the trail and it was nice catching up. We started hiking around 7:30am.

The Northern California section is some of my favorite bits of trail and today was no exception. It felt like we were tucked away deep into a mountain range and the trail was almost exclusively cut into the sloping ridge lines of the range. The views were consistently of far away mountains with lush green valleys between them. It was stunning! My favorite type of hiking is going in places where you can’t see from a car and this day was certainly that.

We had some gnarly sections of blow downs to climb around too.

All day the clouds were dark and threatening  to open up to unleash a downpour on us. Fortunately, the weather held with the exception of a few sprinkles here and there.

Our campsite is home to at least 10 resident deer who are not shy of humans. Should make for an interesting night.
