D3: Spanish Coast (Costa Brava)
Per usual, I awoke first near 7 am and occupied myself with a little yoga (just a few Surya A and Surya B mixed with a little flow) until the rest of the crew woke up.
We then headed to the rental car place to pick up a car to drive up the coast to a few beautiful beaches and coastal towns outside of the city. This area is known as Costa Brava.
Up first, the town and beach of Blanes. We chilled/napped on the beach for a few hours before our stomachs demanded we search of lunch. We discovered another vegan lunch spot where the menu was in Catalonia so I had no idea what I ordered but damn, it was good. If you know anything about me, it is that I can and will eat almost anything. Lowkey think I missed my calling in a fear factor type of show.
Our next stop, Sa Tuna, was spectacular and perhaps my favorite beach spot ever. It is this little cove tucked away in the hill side and since it was a Monday, lacked the normal amount of tourists and was very peaceful. Compared to the beach at Blanes, this beach was more rock than sand and had less topless women but despite this, it was at least 100x more beautiful. We swam out to this ladder in the cliff side and basked in the sun there just taking it all in. We were 2 hours north of Barcelona and ironically actually pretty close to France.
The drive home was pleasant. We drove towards the sunset and the vistas were special. It felt nice to be driving in the same way it does to arrive at somewhere familiar; driving is just something for me that is comforting.
Kylee & I dropped the other two girls off at the Airbnb and then took the rental car back. I’ve learned when traveling with females that is best to optimize the getting ready time (although of three of them were quick!).
We’d been craving tacos since someone, I don’t remember who, mentioned how good they sounded when were at the first beach in Blanes. Our resident food tour guide, Kylee, found a taqueria that felt like a bit of a touristy taco joint, but nonetheless we filled up on their delicious tacos (and of course, a margarita). After dinner, we headed to a jazz bar and sat around sipping wine while trading stories.
Our conversation at one point centered around what it was like to have child-like wonder / play as an adult, and so we spent probably 30 minutes sharing stories of this. When was the last time you ‘played’ as an adult??
