D9: Split to Split

Our agenda was chill today - we knew where we wanted to eat breakfast, lunch, and where our next Airbnb was. We'd be moving up the coast of Croatia from Dubrovnik to our next Airbnb in Split. Breakfast overlooked this little protected cove boxed in with the city walls on the left side and an old fortress we'd visit on the right. The fortress, like the city walls, set my imagination on fire -- what it must've been like to defend the city from these walls.

We took our final walk down the main street of Dubrovnik before catching a taxi to the airport where'd we rent a car. In between Split and Dubrovnik is a town, Ston, known for perhaps the best oysters in the entire world, and after stopping for lunch at a local spot, its clear this isn't just hype. The fresh oysters were orgasmic. My only regret is not getting more of them!

After our pitstop, we finished the drive to Split where parking was a bit of an adventure since reading a parking meter in another language is always a bit of a challenge, and although I received a ticket to place in the car at the end of this process I was like 50% positive I actually did it right. Only one way to find out I guess. The first impression of Split was a bit rough since the town felt way more modern and industrialized than Dubrovnik and lacked the certain medieval charm. We caught a beautiful sunset and then headed to dinner at a lowkey place recommended as a haunt for locals. The menu was a bit shocking, and we weren't into it so we wondered the streets before finding another spot. I had risotto with squid ink that was delectable and reminded me of my favorite backpacking meal.
