Day 68: Food Journal

I thought it’d be fun to keep a food journal of what and when I eat on a trail day. Keep in mind i was still hungry at different points of the day as you read:

• 4:52am: ate half of Brads morning gruel + two spoonful of PB. Morning gruel consists of protein powder, milk powder, rolled oats, chia seeds, and banana chips. It is soaked overnight.

• 5:20: finished the other half of the morning gruel

• 6:00am: handful of captain crunch from Turd Fergusson

• 7:30 am: honey bun

• 8:00 am: stopped for coffee

• 8:50 am: a few handful of salty nuts

• 9:50 am: brown sugar cinnamon pop tart

• 10:39: a few more handfuls of the salty nut mix

• 12:20 pm: 4 handfuls of Peanut Butter pretzels

• 1:00 pm: the rest of the salty nut mix is finished.

• 1:35 pm: 7 peanut m&ms

• 2:30 pm: the rest of the peanut m&ms (no less than 5 but no more than 10)

• 3:20 pm: Peanut butter chocolate Bobo’s almond butter bar

• 3:45 pm: small chocolate almond butter packet

• 4:30 pm: 4 healthy spoonfuls of peanut butter

• 7:05 pm: Good2Go dehydrated meal, vegetable Indian korma with 2 olive oil packets add

• 7:30 pm: 1/3rd of a chocolate bar

A random hiker, but I liked the view!

Outside of the food, I was tempted all day to hike extra hard and push extra miles to make it to a highway to hitch to Etna, CA where the lure of town food was almost overwhelming. I figured this was a chance to practice self-restraint AND truth be told, I was really tired towards the end of the day so we set up camp around 6pm. We met a few hikers on trail today and it was nice to be social with them. The last few miles I felt so exhausted that it turned to being slap happy, and the couple we talked to in that stretch probably thought I was crazy. Oh well, it was a fun way to end the day. We camped by a lake, which meant I could wash the dirt and grime from my body.
