Day 73: Ashland

The two packets of pop tarts I ate for breakfast immediately made me hyper whereas Sandman in contrast awoke from a deep dream and was sluggish. I made coffee to help him jumpstart his day and because I feel I could never be too much energy.

It was 10 downhill miles to where we could get a ride to Ashland, OR and we called a trail angel to arrange a ride. We lucked out. The angel turned out to be Charley, who is about my age and actually section hiked like 300 miles of the trail earlier this year. He was amazing. He drove us to breakfast, to the grocery store, to the outfitters, and a few other places until he ultimately spent almost 3 hours hanging out and shuttling us around town. Amazing!

We hiked another 17 miles after getting back to trail bring out total for the day around 27, which isn’t bad for a town day. The sun finally broke through the clouds today and the weather was honestly perfect. Oregon is known for a relatively low elevation change and the miles today showcased this.

Miles: 27.1

Total Miles: 1,961
