Day 6: coffee is life
On my way out of town, I stopped by the Shell gas station for first coffee since starting and it. was. glorious.
My route today follows dirt roads (surprise) mostly through Prescott National Forest, but a first happened today: A lady stopped her car, rolled down her window, and asked “are you okay or are you doing this because you want to?” It was sweet of her to stop, and she even took my empty coffee cup trash back into town with her.
With only 76 miles to the next town, its a shorter resupply section. I walked 15 miles by 10 am and on pace for a big day. There was no water sources for me today so I was grateful to carry out 6.5 liters.
If you know me well enough, then you know ‘legs up the wall’ is one of my favorite things to do. This doesn’t stop on trail either. It just becomes ‘legs up the backpack’ during breaks.
I was encouraged during the day the meds were helping with my runny nose and sore throat as it seemed to get better, but the closer I got to camp, the more my nose was running. Hopefully it’s just allergies or sinus stuff!
I almost made a big mistake during one of my breaks. I bought a DayQuil/NyQuil pack in town and was taking another dose. I put the pill in my mouth.. and thought “I better check this isn’t NyQuil”. Sure enough, it was! Thankfully I hadn’t swallowed the pill or that would’ve spelled an early day for me.
