Day 74: Bologna Sandwiches

The morning was cold. My hands seldom left my pockets of my down jacket until at least 8am (my gloves were at the bottom of my bag) but yet, it was still a beautiful morning. There was dense fog rolling over the hills and settling in the meadows, giving a morning a peaceful air.

We broke around 10:30 at a lake campground to dry out our bags and tents that were soaked from the condensation of the night. The campground had a hot shower (#clutch) and electrical outlets to get an extra charge in. By this point, it was warm and sunny. The trail remained mostly shaded underneath the tall old growth pines which helped stave off the heat.

Our next stop was at some surprise trail magic from a fella who was supporting his friend on a section hike. I had a diet mt dew and a few bologna sandwiches to satiate my hunger. I haven’t had a bologna sandwhich in years, but dang was it good. We sat for 45 minutes hanging out with the guy.

Oregon has my whole heart with its beauty. It is truly my favorite landscape. The lush green of the forest was stunning this afternoon. I especially loved how the sunlight filtered through the trees. The last six or so miles were spent walking through volcanic rock of the cascades and getting our first up close view of Mt McLaughlin.

I was extra tired towards the end of the day and I feel sleep is going to come very easily tonight.
