Day 78: Shelter Cove

Mosquito madness ensued first thing in the morning. The campground had a bathroom which I hobbled to first thing, but upon reentering my tent there was at least 10-20 mosquitos from the short time I unzipped it. I quickly massacred them and then set about eating a double breakfast to help my body recover from the long day prior. On the whole, I felt good except a slight soreness in my right Achille tendon that I hadn’t felt since leaving the Sierras.

We broke camp around 7:30 to head to a lake resort, Shelter Cove, for a breakfast and to rest some more.

The path to Shelter Cove must’ve been a popular mosquito mating ground because they were everywhere. The good news is that I hike significantly faster when they are out and about, and we arrived at the resort in short order.

We spent much of the day lounging around the resort before hiking out around 5:30 with our goal of making it a ski shelter on trail. The shelter was amazing, completely mosquito free and even had solar powered lights. It’s always nice to not have to set up a tent too.

I also purchased a mosquito head net at the resort and it was a solid investment in both my trail swag and comfort!
