Day 44: Coyote Tracks
The morning was frigid and my fingers were painfully cold for the first part of the morning, especially since my gloves were slightly wet from yesterday. It had stopped raining by the time we awoke but our tents were drenched. Thankfully, everything else was mostly dry.
The next resupply, Mammoth Lakes, was in our sights and I hiked with the energy knowing there was ice cream in my immediate future.
The snow the night before had covered the trail, but luckily a coyote or fox had navigated the trail since the snow. Animals use the trail to quickly travel and this coyote knew the way perfectly. We followed its steps in the snow to find the way.
In the high Sierras, I hadn’t had service for a week but in the final stretch to town, I finally got signal and it was good to communicate with friends and family. We hiked the remaining miles to a parking lot where a nice lady offered to give us a ride to town.
We rent a room in a Motel 6 and set about in town chores. I had a ramen bowl at a restaurant. At the grocery store, I bought a pint of ice cream and immediately devoured it, and then for dinner bought a family sized pack of Oreos, cinnamon graham crackers, a half gallon of milk, and a Caesar salad bag for dinner.
