Day 26: Shower and Laundry
I had to pinch myself on sunrise.
And that was the only photo I took today.
It was going to be hot today and I wanted to arrive in Acton, CA at a decent time because I desperately needed to shower and do laundry. If you don’t count the hot springs, I haven’t cleaned my body and my clothes in a week. I was getting sniffs of myself -- let’s just say it wasn’t pleasant.
The app I use to navigate let me know there were bathrooms up trail and I was planning to do my morning business there. I made it the 10 miles to the toilets and to my surprise, they were locked. Shucks.
Once I took care of business, it was 14 miles to Acton. I started listening to ‘Born a Crime’ by Trevor Noah. Incredible audio book so far.
My first order of business upon reaching the KOA was to drink a Gatorade and eat a pint of Ben & Jerry’s Cookie dough ice cream. Then I showered and did laundry, and wow I felt like a new person. The rest of the day consisted of town chores, like organizing the food i received in my resupply box (thanks again Mom and Dad) and ordering a 16 inch pizza from the local pizza shop.
It didn’t stand a chance. Between that, a teriyaki chicken and rice dish, and an apple pie given to us, it was a big dinner. I could hardly walk.
The KOA was a poppin’ spot. I reckon there was at least 25 other PCT hikers who set up camp.
