Week 2 Yoga Koh

A beautiful sunrise before yoga practice

A rhythm sets in although I find myself pushing my alarm back from 6:40am a little bit more until I am waking up a little after 6:50 am, which gives me just enough time to change, walk the 100 feet to the yoga studio, and set up my mat before Aurelie begins class.

Week 2 is supposedly the most physical of the weeks during training since our posture labs for the week include inversions, balancing, and arm balancing postures. This means we are doing at least an hour and a half of yoga to start the morning followed by at least two hours of postures labs that require a lot of physical work. The postures we are learning, like hand stands and head stands, are immensely gratifying to achieve, and for me it would the first time I'd been successfully in those poses. The feeling of accomplishment makes the work worth it.

The week also brought more and more opportunities to teach and get feedback. It is amazing to observe myself and the rest of the team as we grow more confident in our different styles of teaching, and also as we begin to receive feedback and work to address them. For example, my "crutch" phases I use often when teaching are "meet me in … " and "continue to find your breath…".

We are encouraged to take one morning to sit and observe a class versus participating in it. My rest and observe day came on Friday of this week, and it is truly an amazing experience to sit back and watch a teacher guide a class and to be intensely aware of everyone's response to the guidance. While I've tried to observe teachers while taking a class, it is also entirely a different perspective to sit back and observe. This time was also needed because it gave me an opportunity to journal as well. My sleep as of late has been terrible, which is unlike me since I often joke I should put "sleeping" as a skill on my resume. Truthfully, all of this time in reflection during the last few weeks has brought a few uncomfortable thoughts and it's impacted my sleep. The time I spent journaling and getting it out on paper helped immensely.

Week 2 lived up to the hype. By Saturday, my body needed some rest. I didn't do much on Saturday afternoon, although in typical Brad fashion I was up and after it again on Sunday spending a few hours during the day walking around the country side.
