Dream It, Do It
Create Space in your Life to Dream Big
My Big Dream
On April 4th, I start the Great Western Loop, a 6,875 mile thru-hike connecting our nation’s longest scenic trails. The trail traverses through 12 national parks, 8 states, and some of the more wild parts remaining in the lower 48.
It is a trek of the extremes in distance and environment: I must average ~33 miles per day over 210 days while navigating deserts, snowy mountains, and everything in between.
What is Space Packing?
Strap on a backpack, go on a few day walk in nature, and create space free from distractions.
Think about it: when was the last time you spent an entire day to yourself outside of your home and disconnected from technology?
Go outside to create space inside. You’ll be amazed at the impact it will have on your life.
Why is it important?
We are now more connected than ever thanks to the smartphone we constantly have in our hand (or pocket or nightstand but certainly within an arms reach). This “always-on” mentality means we can always be responding to texts or scrolling social media.
It also means our brains rarely get rest to process and create. For me, creating space to think forces me to reevaluate my priorities: am I on auto-pilot cruising through life or am I doing what I desire to do?
Each solo trip I’ve taken was followed by fresh perspectives, new ideas, and often life-altering impacts as I put those ideas in action.
What is your Big Dream?
Your dream likely is not to hike ~7,000 miles, but I hope you are dreaming about something big. Go after it. Do it!
